Blog for Week #3
This week the topic I researched was the virtual reality Second Life. This was interesting to me because I have not been very involved in many of the social networks online, such as My Space. I was not aware of the extent people can be involved in these online societies, though it really doesn't surprise me. I read the article I found posted by Wikipedia about Second Life. It makes me kind of curious to see what it looks like in this online community, though I cannot imagine having enough time to really be involved in it. It said that users are often called "residents" and that the activity is viewed by some as a game, though it does not have many properties present in most games. There are no winners or losers. It is just an environment where people can meet other people, buy items, explore, and participate in activities. It said that the number of users ranges from 12,000 to 25,000.
